Youth

We love having children and young people as part of our church family at the Boathouse and new families are always welcome!

Our aim in our youth ministry is to help our young people to 'own' their faith in Jesus as they grow in their independence, while also recognising they're still in the family home and so we very much want to partner with parents in this.  We do this in a variety of ways including:

  • Ignite, our Sunday School group for 11-14s
  • Ignite Breakfasts, a monthly gathering before church where we explore topical issues relevant to young people over some breakfast!  On these Sundays, Ignite-aged children then stay in the service to help prepare them for the transition out of Sunday School
  • Ignite Fridays, a youth group that meets monthly on the penultimate Friday of the month
  • Ignite Socials, which take place termly, with a highlight of the youth year being the Chip Shop Hop!
Those 15 and over are welcome to join in with Ignite's activities but many enjoy being part of broader church life.  One of the blessings of being a multi-generational church is that there are plenty of 20-somethings around and we find older teenagers really appreciate getting to know them.  We have members of our youth team who love to spend time with older teens helping them work out what it looks like for them to follow Jesus.

All our youth team are church members who are DBS checked, trained in safeguarding and equipped to teach the Bible to young people.

For information on our provision for under 11s, have a look at our children's ministry page.

Planning a Visit?

If you're thinking about joining us one Sunday the following information should help you know what to expect.

Where and When

OasisAcademy

We meet at the Oasis Academy Putney (click here for how to find us) on a Sunday - our service starts at 10:30am but if you arrive 10-15 minutes before then you'll have time to find your bearings and be welcomed by a few of our church family (starting with someone from our Welcome Team who will greet you on the door).

Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilets along the main corridor.

What does a typical Sunday look like?

Our service begins at 10:30am with a official welcome from one of the team. This is followed by a time of sung worship, led by our band, which often includes a kids song with actions to help all of us - from the youngest to the oldest! - engage with what we're singing about.  After the opening songs, the children head out for their own activities (more information about that here) while the rest of us take the chance to greet those sitting around us.  We'll then share some news about what's coming up in the life of the church before a member of the church family leads us in prayer.  We'll then hear the Bible read and preached, with the sermon connecting the timeless truths of the Bible with our modern lives, before finishing with a final song.  After the service (which typically lasts an hour to an hour and a quarter), we encourage people to stay for tea or coffee, share lives and continue to speak about God's word.
