International Students

We have people in our church family from six different continents and love the international flavour that brings to church life so we warmly welcome international students.  Whether you're here to study for a few years or just in London for a few months on a study abroad programme, we'd be delighted to offer you a church home away from home.  But don't just take our word for it - here's what a couple of our international students say about life at the Boathouse:

Janet Circle   Janet, MA Creative Writing for Young Readers, USA

On the outside people may view me as brave and fearless for moving to a completely foreign country and not knowing anyone, but what people don’t see is that it also came with fear and homesickness. Leaving familiar faces, supportive friends, and family was difficult, which meant that finding a church community was necessary for me. Dave and the Boathouse church welcomed me the first day they met me and continue to do so every week. Since then, I have gained a church family that I feel connected to and walks alongside me in my faith journey.

Mo Circle   Mosadoluwa, MA Applied Cognitive Neuroscience, Nigeria

I joined the Boathouse Church by divine guidance on my very first Sunday in London, after God led me to the house of some church members just before they left for church, who then brought me along.  8 months later, I have enjoyed every second I have spent with my church family. The atmosphere of the Boathouse Church family feels like Heaven, as Jesus' love is evident all around. I especially look forward to the preaching of God's word, vividly applied and illustrated with physical objects and real-life events, which even the little children find interesting! In a world that needs the Gospel more than ever, I am so glad that the Boathouse Church exists.

Planning a Visit?

If you're thinking about joining us one Sunday the following information should help you know what to expect.

Where and When

OasisAcademy

We meet at the Oasis Academy Putney (click here for how to find us) on a Sunday - our service starts at 10:30am but if you arrive 10-15 minutes before then you'll have time to find your bearings and be welcomed by a few of our church family (starting with someone from our Welcome Team who will greet you on the door).

Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilets along the main corridor.

What does a typical Sunday look like?

Our service begins at 10:30am with a official welcome from one of the team. This is followed by a time of sung worship, led by our band, which often includes a kids song with actions to help all of us - from the youngest to the oldest! - engage with what we're singing about.  After the opening songs, the children head out for their own activities (more information about that here) while the rest of us take the chance to greet those sitting around us.  We'll then share some news about what's coming up in the life of the church before a member of the church family leads us in prayer.  We'll then hear the Bible read and preached, with the sermon connecting the timeless truths of the Bible with our modern lives, before finishing with a final song.  After the service (which typically lasts an hour to an hour and a quarter), we encourage people to stay for tea or coffee, share lives and continue to speak about God's word.
