PutneyBridge
Our Story

Our story starts in 2011 when a small group gathered to encourage one another in our faith and to pray about starting a new church in Putney to share the good news about Jesus with our community.  Both now and then, we've always wanted as many as possible to hear about him - however, you have to start somewhere so we had an initial focus on connecting with the many 20- and 30-somethings in Putney.  When God had grown that small group to about 20 people, we started Sunday evening services in the King's College School boathouse on the Embankment (hence our name!)

By the middle of 2014, some of us had been blessed with children and so we started a second service on a Sunday morning.  This moved around various venues in Putney until it landed at our current venue, the Oasis Academy, in 2017.  When the boathouse that hosted our evening service had to close for refurbishment works, we merged our two services and enjoyed having a multi-generational feel to our Sunday gatherings so much that we've stayed together ever since!

Our horizons expanded further when we merged with Roehampton Student Church (RSC) in 2021.  Since then we've been exploring ways we can continue RSC's good work of serving the students and graduates of Roehampton University, while also growing our connections to other parts of the Roehampton community.

Today, we’re thankful to be a growing church family of all ages from all sorts of different backgrounds who hold to the same conviction we started with: that the good news about Jesus that we have as Christians is too good to keep to ourselves.  So if you want to get to know him, or be encouraged to keep going in your Christian faith, come and join us one Sunday!

Planning a Visit?

If you're thinking about joining us one Sunday the following information should help you know what to expect.

Where and When

OasisAcademy

We meet at the Oasis Academy Putney (click here for how to find us) on a Sunday - our service starts at 10:30am but if you arrive 10-15 minutes before then you'll have time to find your bearings and be welcomed by a few of our church family (starting with someone from our Welcome Team who will greet you on the door).

Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible and there are disabled toilets along the main corridor.

What does a typical Sunday look like?

Our service begins at 10:30am with a official welcome from one of the team. This is followed by a time of sung worship, led by our band, which often includes a kids song with actions to help all of us - from the youngest to the oldest! - engage with what we're singing about.  After the opening songs, the children head out for their own activities (more information about that here) while the rest of us take the chance to greet those sitting around us.  We'll then share some news about what's coming up in the life of the church before a member of the church family leads us in prayer.  We'll then hear the Bible read and preached, with the sermon connecting the timeless truths of the Bible with our modern lives, before finishing with a final song.  After the service (which typically lasts an hour to an hour and a quarter), we encourage people to stay for tea or coffee, share lives and continue to speak about God's word.
